Biography:
Alan began his career in education at Asheville School in North Carolina twenty years ago. After earning a Ph.D. in Russian history at Georgetown University, during which time he lived, worked, and conducted extensive archival research in the Russian Federation, he taught classes in Russian, environmental, world, and European history at the university level for several years. In the spring of 2023, Alan started working at EHS, and nearly three years of teaching at Episcopal have confirmed to him that high school education is where he feels most fulfilled professionally. At EHS, Alan teaches Modern World History and two advanced history electives–Global Communism and Modern Middle East. He also welcomes the opportunity to lead students in independent studies related to the history of Russia and the former Soviet Union, as well as environmental history. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Alan serves as an assistant wrestling coach and is a member of the North Dorm Team. Alan and his wife, Tatiana, live off-campus in Arlington with their two children.
