The 2006 varsity girls lacrosse team delivered a historic and defining season, finishing with a 17-3 record and capturing the inaugural Virginia State Championship. Under the leadership of head coach Julie DiRemigio and assistant coaches Kathleen Caslow and Viviana Davila, the Maroon defeated Norfolk Academy, 20-12, and St. Catherine’s, 16-11, before securing the state title with a thrilling 13-12 victory over Collegiate. The championship squad remains the only girls’ lacrosse team in School history to win a state title, and its 17 victories shattered the previous School record of 12 wins in a single season.
The team’s roster featured incredible talent, with 10 players continuing their lacrosse careers at elite collegiate programs, including Boston College, Notre Dame, Princeton, Vanderbilt, and Washington and Lee. The team was anchored by individual standout performances and postseason accolades, including Lindsey deButts ’08, who earned High School All-American honors, and Ansley Stewart ’07, who was named a High School All-American Honorable Mention. Stewart and Carly Linthicum ’09 both received All-ISL selections. On the state level, Stewart, Katharine Farrar ’07, and team MVP Peyton Killeen ’06 were named to the All-State team, with Killeen also earning Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention honors.
Additionally, Eleanor Cooper ’08 received the team’s Most Improved Player award, and Sarah Vance ’06 was honored with the Coaches Award.
