Biography:
Heidi serves as the Social Studies Department Chair, is a decades long member of the Anderson dorm team, is an academic advisor, and works with the spring afternoon service team.  Heidi, who joined the EHS faculty in 2006, leverages her 25 years of experience as an educator in developing innovative approaches to course design (emphasizing  student-centered learning), as well as in developing curriculum and establishing leadership of the Social Studies department.  Among other courses, Heidi teaches Honors Modern World History and the Advanced Global Studies: The History & Politics of Food elective.  Following a recent sabbatical taken to advance her knowledge of interior and architectural design, she recently developed a History of Architecture elective, which exposes students not only the fundamentals of drafting and design, but also to experiencing the real world architectural styles first hand in Washington, D.C., and Alexandria.

Heidi earned an undergraduate degree in art history with a minor in architectural studies at the University of New Hampshire.  While teaching full-time, she earned her M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Keene State College. Before joining the EHS faculty, Heidi taught at Souhegan High School in Amherst, N.H., for six years, where she became acquainted with the Coalition of Essential Schools’ philosophy. Heidi completed multiple professional development programs at Yale University’s MacMillan Center, which allowed her to travel to Turkey, China, UAE, Ecuador, and Morocco.  Heidi, who lives on campus with her husband, enjoys engaging with members of the EHS community on campus and experiencing the world off campus during flex blocks with students, and cultural events with family and friends.
