Biography: Having grown up as a faculty child at Virginia Episcopal School, Tom has been immersed in the boarding school world for his entire life. At Wake Forest University he studied mathematics and completed minors in computer science and history, while playing on the club lacrosse team. Tom taught mathematics at both the Fay School and Boston University Academy in Massachusetts, and the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Maryland, before coming to Episcopal. He has taught all levels of secondary math. In addition to his teaching responsibilities at Episcopal, he coaches boys’ junior varsity lacrosse, advises The Chronicle, and serves as a member of the Hummel Dorm team.
“Everyone’s main goal is to help teenagers become more interesting, honorable, and productive adults,” Tom shared. “While I hope that each of my students will find the same joy I do in the beauty of mathematics, it is critical that all of my students find something about which to be passionate.”
Tom lives on campus with his wife and triathlon training partner Deb, their daughter Layne ’16, and their son Mark '19.
