Landon Overtakes Maroon in Double Overtime

Despite the loss, the team played with grit and resilience throughout the contest.
The game began with Landon controlling the tempo with their ground game and scoring two early touchdowns to go up 14-0. EHS struck back midway through the second quarter on a long touchdown run by Perris Jones ’18, making the score 14-7 as the teams went into the half.

The third quarter saw missed scoring opportunities by both teams. The fourth quarter featured a lot of excitement as Landon opened up the scoring with a field goal to make it 17-7. EHS showed its perseverance in punching back with a drive and touchdown run by Ricky Miezan ’18 to make the score 17-14. Landon then went on an eight-minute drive on which EHS ultimately held them and took over on downs. With three minutes to go, Seth Agwunobi ’18 orchestrated a drive with key completions and deliberate running to give Paul Pivirotto '19 the opportunity to hit a game-tying field goal with under twenty seconds to play.

Heading into overtime, the teams were knotted up at 17-17. During the first overtime, Landon and EHS traded field goals to make it 20-20 as they went into the second extra session. EHS opened with the ball and after a holding call negated a first down run, the Maroon was forced to start their offense from the 38 yard line. On the next play, Agwunobi converted to Barry Curtis ’19 on an excellent throw-and-catch for a touchdown to go ahead 26-20. Landon then had their opportunity with the ball and was able to convert a fourth down for a touchdown and extra point to win the ball game 27-26.
