Max C. Chapman, Jr. '62

" Bee" Chapman led Episcopal's 1961 football team, one of The High School's greatest, which finished the season undefeated and won the Virginia State Prep League Championship. Playing halfback, Mr. Chapman scored 124 points to break a school record that had stood since 1947. He was named to the All-American, AllConference and All-Metropolitan teams. Mr. Chapman was co-alternate captain for the track team and was the high scorer, amassing a season total of 102 points in 17 first-place finishes. He competed in the shot put, discus, broad jump and 60-yard dash. Mr. Chapman served as a Monitor and was awarded the Jack Buchanan Award for Football and the Rinehart Medal for Athletic Worth. At the University of North Carolina, Mr. Chapman was known to be a tough and decisive halfback.
In 1963, he kicked the deciding field goal against Duke University, a victory that sent him and his teammates to the Gator Bowl. In that contest, U.N.C. overcame the Air Force Academy 35-0.
Mr. Chapman plays an accomplished game of squash, holds a four handicap in golf, and has viewed the world from the crest of the Matterhorn, the Eiger and the Grand Teton. He is Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Nomura Holding America, Inc., and he and his family live in Scarborough, N.Y.
