Clarence Fletcher Carter III '54

Mr. Carter was an outstanding three-sport athlete at EHS and was known as a "speed demon." He was selected first team All-State in football his sophomore and senior years and second team as a junior. He was selected to the All-Metro team as both a junior and senior, and he served as captain of the undefeated 1953 football team. That team was Prep League Champion and ranked No.1 in the Metro area by The Washington Post. Mr. Carter set a new School rushing record his junior year and averaged 7.1 yards per carry. He was a defensive specialist in basketball and a hard-hitting center fielder in baseball. His senior season, Mr. Carter hit a bases-loaded triple and scored on the next hit to defeat a powerful Woodberry team. At graduation, Mr. Carter received the Rinehart Medal for Athletic Worth.

Mr. Carter served as a Monitor at EHS, and he played freshman football under the legendary Coach Frank Howard at Clemson before transferring to the University of South Carolina.
