Students Impress at World Series of Entrepreneurship

EHS entrepreneurship students’ work culminates in a team pitch competition, where groups of students collaborate to conceive of an idea and deliver a pitch in front of their classmates, the wider School community, and a panel of outside judges.
Judges Pawel Swiatek (CEO of Mazey), Mollie Thorsen (COO of Burro Creative Solutions), and Joey Graziano (COO of Headfirst Summer Camps) named Team Wireless Leash the winner of the 60-second pitch contest.

The Wireless Leash was developed by Matt Adkins ’17, Alexander Block ’17, Philip Brossy ’17, and Paul Gibert ’17.

In the team’s words, “The Wireless Leash is a pet location monitoring system designed to replace physical leashes and buried invisible fence solutions. This product uses a GPS-enabled device planted in the pet's collar to set a radius around a mobile smartphone. The collar detects when the pet has exceeded a distance set by the user and emits a warning beep and vibration followed by a small static correction. With a minimal amount of training, a pet can enjoy freedom from a restrictive physical leash, while the owner can rest assured that their pet will always stay close by.”

After securing the win at the school-wide competition, Team Wireless Leash was invited to pitch their idea at the World Series of Entrepreneurship on May 19 in D.C.
 
Paul explained, “We had to dig deep for marketing data and dive into the technology as we attempted to win $5,000 on a $0 budget. We carefully planned everything down to the socks we were wearing, because we knew that the competition would be stiff.”
 
The team’s efforts won them the Excellence Award for Entrepreneurship and $250, which Paul is using to create a prototype of the team’s product this summer.
 
“The determination and grit demonstrated by our group was exciting to be a part of,” said Paul.
