Archibald Robinson Hoxton, Jr. '35

Captain of Episcopal's football and track teams in 1935, "Young Flick" Hoxton was described by his classmates as "a great kicker, a great passer, a great runner, a truly great leader and above all one great guy." He captured the quarter-mile championship in the Virginia State Prep League for three years, and he held the school record in the same event for 41 years. Twice he received the c.c. Baldwin Medal for Sportsmanship, the first boy in Episcopal's history to do so.

This former Head Monitor and President of the Fairfax Literary Society received the Quentin Roosevelt Prize for Character and delivered his class' valedictory address. From EHS, he continued his football and track career at Yale.

Mr. Hoxton served as Episcopal's ninth headmaster from 1967-1981. He is the son of Episcopal's sixth Headmaster, Archibald R. Hoxton, Sr., 1895, and grandson of Col. Llewellyn Hoxton, Episcopal's Associate Headmaster during Dr. Blackford's tenure. Mr. Hoxton and his wife, Ruth, live in Shepherdstown, W.Va. Episcopal's Hoxton Track and Field bear his father's name.
