Students Welcome French Counterparts

The EHS community welcomed 12 students and two faculty members from Collège Stanislas for a two-week visit from April 2-18.
During the first week of their stay, the Parisian students and their teachers attended morning classes with their American hosts and, in the afternoons, went with their teachers to visit museums, monuments, and other points of interest around Alexandria and Washington, D.C. During the second week, the Stanislas students took day-trips into DC and to Charlottesville and Annapolis. Some of the highlights for the French included an evening outing to see "Ragtime" at Ford's Theatre, visits to Mount Vernon and Monticello, and a fun cookout with their EHS hosts at the home of Head of School Charley Stillwell.

The EHS-Stanislas exchange has been ongoing for more than 20 years, and has been a source for lasting relationships between the two schools and the individuals who have participated. This summer, four EHS students, Kay Finlay ’19, Bijée Jackson ’19, Sarah Smith ’19, and Leila Wargotz ’20, will go to Paris with French teacher Eleanor C. Moore as part of the exchange. In addition to these four students who hosted the French on campus, many others stepped up as hosts and helpers during the visit. Wargotz expressed her enthusiasm about the exchange.

"Being Anne-Flore’s host at EHS this spring was a wonderful experience and an opportunity I am fortunate to have been provided. Despite being raised in different locations and cultures, Anne-Flore and I share a multitude of interests and similarities, and I genuinely enjoyed getting to know her. Anne-Flore’s excitement to be at Episcopal was contagious, and I cannot wait to show just as much enthusiasm when I visit her in Paris this summer!"

The group of four students and Mrs. Moore are looking forward to the three-week program starting June 10 in Paris. Their days will be similarly structured with morning classes at Stanislas and afternoon visits around the city. Additionally, the group will explore other areas near Paris, such as Chartres, Versailles, and Giverny, and will take a long weekend to visit another area of France.
