Students Attend Diversity Network Conference

Four EHS students attended the Virginia Diversity Network Student Diversity Conference in early April.
This conference, held at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School on April 1, brought together Upper School students from independent schools across the state to consider ways to make their schools more inclusive. Participants also experienced peer-led workshops focusing on different aspects of diversity.

EHS students Henry Barrett '18, Nicole Carino '19, Kate Castle '19, and Esther Kim '19 were among the students in attendance.

The students facilitated workshops for other Virginia independent school students. Their EHS student presentation, the workshop "Building Bridges in the Community," was a follow-up to their experience at the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) in Atlanta last fall and their MLK Jr. Day Symposium workshop for EHS students.

"The Virginia Diversity Network was a clear learning experience for all participants, whether student, facilitator, or speaker," said student participant Esther Kim. "Representing Episcopal High School through Spectrum-oriented workshops lent me insight into wide-ranging perspectives of students in the Virginia private school system. I learned about methods of facilitation in groups of varying size, age, and prior knowledge, and I came away from VDN much better equipped to conduct meaningful, personal, and thorough discussions concerning diversity and current issues."
