Students' Hard Work Pays Off at Model UN Conference

On Friday, February 3, 19 Episcopal students traveled to Washington, D.C., for the American University Model United Nations Conference (AmeriMUNC).
AmeriMUNC offers a forum for highschool students to engage with global issues through interactive simulations. As noted on the conference website, students are challenged to “think creatively and innovatively about our world’s problems.”

Episcopal’s Model UN team, led by Sophie Singletary ’18, has been meeting every week since October.

“Thoroughly briefed on everything from the refugee crisis to issues on gun control, our delegates amassed a greater knowledge of domestic and international current events,” said Sophie.

Months of preparation paid off, with four EHS students earning top honors:

  • Hunter Brode ’18: Best Delegate (United Nations Human Rights Council, Kazakstan)

  • Harry Shi ’19: Best Delegate (Disarmament and International Security Committee, Ethiopia)

  • Janie Stillwell ’18: Outstanding Delegate (Disarmament and International Security Committee, Turkey)

  • Olivia Tucker ’19: Verbal Commendation (Disarmament and International Security Committee, Verbal)

“Our awards proved to be the fruits of our labor, and we look forward to competing in future conferences,” said Sophie.
