Girls Varsity Basketball Team Gets Stuck in Sandy Springs

Episcopal started the first half strong, jumping out to a 21-9 lead in the first eight minutes of play. The team incorporated wonderfully unselfish ball movement to baffle the defensive efforts of Sandy Spring, with five players registering points in the first quarter. Maya Goree '18 was a force to be reckoned with in the half court, scoring from behind the arc, in the paint, and at the charity stripe in the first quarter alone. Brooks Buyck '17 put an exclamation point on the first quarter with a deep three followed immediately by a tough layup. Returning from the break, the Maroon saw hustle and heart from Hadiyyah Abdul-Jalaal '17; the senior ripped down several key rebounds and brilliantly found the seams in the zone for consecutive layups.

To their credit, the Wildebeests came charging back in the third stanza, holding EHS to just seven points while registering seven of their own. Emma Jones '18 helped settle the team with intelligence and leadership in the half court, and Mary Ives Giblin '19 established herself as an incredibly poised floor general. Once again, the Maroon utilized multiple offensive threats to connect with the hoop. At the buzzer, EHS had secured a convincing 48-22 victory.
