Girls Varsity Basketball Demonstrates Graceful Loss to STAB

St. Anne's Belfield is currently the second-ranked team in VISAA, loaded with a slew of upper-echelon talent; the squad knew they'd have to execute a nearly perfect game to pull off a win. At the moment the ball was tipped, Episcopal played at an exceptionally energetic and fearless level that caught the Saints off guard. With every basket scored by the visitors, EHS answered with a layup or three-pointer of their own. Hope Gray '17 showcased incredible intelligence and poise on the defensive end, shutting down their guards on numerous occasions in the open floor. At the conclusion of the first stanza, STAB held on to a mere three point lead.

That's when the good fortune ran out for the Maroon, as the team went ice cold in the second and third quarters. The Saints, conversely, used the momentum swing  to go on a 32-8 run. Refusing to back down from the challenge, the home team continued to fight and scrap throughout the course of the game. A steal and layup from Dymin Gerow '20 brought the crowd to its feet in the fourth stanza, and Goree finished the game with a beautiful three-point play in the closing seconds. In the final period, the Maroon outscored the Saints 15-10, even with all five starters still on the floor. The damage from quarters two and three was too much to overcome, howeverand the team finally succumbed to STAB by a score of 57-35.

It's never easy to lose a game by double-digits, but the coaches were extremely pleased by the heart and class this team demonstrated in the loss. We couldn't have been more proud to see them truly live up to the expectations of the staff and compete for one another.
