Maroon Narrowly Misses Collegiate in Varsity Girls Basketball Game

Friday night's shooting drought continued to plague the Maroon Saturday afternoon. The Cougars raced out to a 7-2 lead, forcing Episcopal to call a timeout to regroup. EHS battled back throughout the first quarter and finally pulled within one when Weger found Liza-Banks Campagna '17 in the paint for a mid-range jumper. Goree continued to assert herself on offense, notching all seven of the team's second quarter points. Heading into the locker room at half, Episcopal trailed 20-18.

The momentum began to shift in the direction of the home team in the third stanza. Buyck played especially well, knocking down a much needed three pointer as the final seconds ticked away. In the fourth quarter, though, Episcopal experienced a collective flatness that we simply couldn't shake. The squad missed seven uncontested layups in the final period and struggled greatly from the free throw line. The Maroon found their sense of urgency once again in the last minute of play, brilliantly scoring six points in 37 seconds. The comeback was staged at too late an hour, however, as the team came up short by just three points: 43-40.
