Girls Varsity Basketball Comes Close to St. Andrew's (MD)

This game was an important ISL matchup with a team we knew to be formidable. St. Andrew's (MD) struck first by converting an offensive rebound underneath, but Kailyn Shepherd '19 immediately responded by hitting a tough baseline layup. Moments later, Buyck found Maya Goree '18 twice for a three-pointer and a layup to give Episcopal a 7-2 lead. Not to be outdone, the Lions found their offensive rhythm and went on a 8-0 run to give them the slight advantage. The two talented teams continued wrestling for the lead, ending the first half in a 25-25 draw.

That's when things began to fall apart for the Maroon. St. Andrews hit their stride offensively, scoring eight unanswered points in the opening minutes of the third stanza. After calling a timeout to adjust, EHS did a better job locking down on D. Additionally, Sophie Singletary '18 was truly magnificent on the boards, snatching 14 rebounds (eight of which were offensive). On the other end, however, the team went cold; we missed a number of open layups, close jumpers, and uncontested three-pointers. Forced to put their opponent on the line in the closing minutes, the Lions extended their lead further and Episcopal dropped the contest 46-37.
