Girls Varsity Basketball Crushes Sandy Spring

EHS produced a wonderfully balanced effort against ISL opponent Sandy Spring. The team sprinted out to an early lead, beginning with a Hope Gray '17 to Brooks Buyck '17 layup. The Wildebeests answered back with a basket of their own, but Episcopal took advantage of missed defensive rotations to unleash a scoring barrage that came from a number of sources. Mary Ives Giblin '19 showed off her quickness and ball handling by knocking down three consecutive transition buckets for the Maroon. Teammate Nora Huffines '20 registered her first varsity points with a gorgeous jumper in the second quarter; Huffines also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, six of which came in the first half. No matter the player combinations, EHS played with fluidity and poise to maintain a comfortable lead at halftime.
 
The second half was much like the first. Up 33-10 entering the third quarter, the team continued to run on all cylinders on both ends of the floor. The defensive rebounding of Emma Jones '18 gave Dymin Gerow '20 an opportunity to finish a perfect jump shot on the other end. A steal from Erin Phillips '18 led to Singletary sprinting the floor and finding classmate Lexi Weger '18 in transition. Didi Tyree '19 also recorded the first two varsity points of her career with a strong post move in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. The team played as a unit and stuck to the basic fundamentals of offense and defense, walking away with a 53-12 victory.
