Big Win for Girls Varsity Hoops

"If it's not going well for you, make it go well for someone else." This quote by Brad Stevens encapsulated everything we wanted the team to learn from the previous contest at Holton-Arms.
We knew that we would need a far more balanced attack to outlast Seton, one of the top teams in VISAA Division II, for a second time this season.

The wintry mix outside starkly contrasted the hot shooting of the Conquistadors in the opening minutes of play. Seton jumped out to an early 7-1 lead, eager to defend their home court and avenge their loss back in November. EHS called a timeout to make a few adjustments and settle themselves down offensively. That timeout proved advantageous, as the Maroon broke Seton's press on the next three occasions.

Moments later, a gorgeous baseline drive by Campagna led to an and-one situation, and the senior finished the continuation with a free throw that gave Episcopal the lead. The two teams battled for the lead throughout first half but found themselves deadlocked at 26 when the halftime buzzer sounded.  The third stanza was much like the two that came before; Seton began the scoring with a three-pointer just thirty seconds into play, but Buyck and Campagna quickly responded with back-to-back buckets for the Maroon.

At the beginning of the final period, Sophie Singletary transformed into a rebounding machine and helped to greatly limit the second chance opportunities for the Conquistadors. Buyck weaved through defenders as if they were cones in a drill, hitting Weger underneath for a myriad of uncontested layups. In the fourth quarter, EHS used the lack of shot clock to their benefit and forced Seton out of their treacherous zone. Patience, poise, and intelligence down the stretch solidified the team's 51-46 victory against the well-coached, disciplined team from Manassas.
