12 Announce College Athletic Commitments in Online Ceremonies

Twelve members of the Class of 2020 announced their intention today to continue their athletic careers in college, bringing to 22 the number of graduating seniors who will play at the next level.

Four seniors announced their college commitments in the fall, and another six in February. Altogether, half of the 22 commits will play at the Division I level.

These latest student-athletes celebrated their college commitments during online ceremonies today with friends, teammates, family, and coaches.

Alli Boehm (track & field, cross country)
Hometown: Alexandria, Va.
College choice: Wake Forest University
Coach Damian Walsh: “Thanks to Alli’s intrinsic motivation and extremely competitive nature, she found some great success in indoor track early in her EHS career as a way of preparing for her first love at the time, lacrosse. Starting out as a valuable member of the 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams, she always wanted more and was willing to put in the work and be patient when needed. After miles and miles of trials, Alli ended her career at EHS with five league and state championships titles, including the state cross country and 800-meter individual honors. She also has her name firmly etched on 11 school records after a remarkable career.”

Claire Boehm (track & field, cross country)
Hometown: Alexandria, Va.
College choice: Wake Forest University
Coach Damian Walsh: “Claire found track and field and later on cross country as a perfect fit for her determination, natural ability, and competitive nature. She ended her career as not only one of the most decorated female student-athletes, with 10 All-State performances and eight school records, but she was always a bright and shining face on a daily basis in training for her teammates and her coaches. Claire was the first to set her sights on contributing to the Wake Forest distance program, and we look forward to following her as a student-athlete with so much to give at the next level.”

Chad Calderwood (lacrosse)
Hometown: West Linn, Ore.
College choice: Ohio Northern University
Coach Scott Conklin: “Chad has been an integral part of our face-off unit over the past three years and finishes his EHS career as sixth all-time in face-off wins (179) and second all-time in winning percentage (57%). He tied the school record with two ‘perfect’ games last season in terms of winning percentage. Chad is a fantastic teammate who dedicated a lot of time and energy to his craft. His teammates and coaches will miss him next spring. Ohio Northern is getting an immediate impact face-off specialist.”

Jackson Eicher (lacrosse)
Hometown: Warrenton, Va.
College choice: U.S. Military Academy (West Point)
Coach Scott Conklin: “Jackson had quite an impact with only one full lacrosse season at EHS. We only wish he came to us as a freshman. He provides an immediate offensive presence, as he is an outstanding finisher (one of, if not the best, I’ve coached in 25 years). He set the EHS single-season goal-scoring record last year as a junior with 65 goals and was also named All-IAC. In addition to his strong play on the field, Jackson is an outstanding leader who earned the role of captain for the 2020 team. He is a great kid to be around, and I expect him to be a key player in the near future for the Army Cadets.”

Jack Fitzpatrick (basketball)
Hometown: Alexandria, Va.
College choice: Catholic University
Coach Jim Fitzpatrick: “Jack had a terrific two-year career at EHS. A co-captain, team leader, and starter, he earned the respect of his coaches and his teammates each day with his incredible work ethic. Jack led our team in assists this year, and his unselfish play allowed his teammates to thrive in our up-tempo system; he was a true point guard for our team! Jack helped lead the Maroon to 37 wins the past two seasons. I know he will have an immediate impact on the team at Catholic next season.”

Caroline Garrard (soccer)
Hometown: Atlanta, Ga.
College choice: Denison University
Coach Jen Fitzpatrick: “It’s hard to imagine Episcopal soccer without Caroline. In her three years competing for the Maroon, she demonstrated versatility that proved invaluable. Whether it was exploiting holes in the defense as a central midfielder with impeccable field sense and distribution skills or finding the back of the net as a dynamic striker on the front line, Caroline displayed both grit and grace on the field. A tenacious competitor, she served as team captain and earned All-ISL honors as a senior. Her potential is limitless, and I can’t wait to watch her continue to develop as a player at Denison next year!”

Ben Lee (lacrosse)
Hometown: Raleigh, N.C.
College choice: University of Richmond
Coach Scott Conklin: “Ben has been an impact defensemen for the varsity since his sophomore year, and his strong play on the field earned him All-State honors last year as a junior. A leader on and off the field, he was selected by his teammates as a 2020 captain. Athleticism, effort, and pride are all words that describe Ben’s game and commitment to EHS lacrosse. He will be missed. Ben’s versatility will be a great asset to the lacrosse program at the University of Richmond, as he can play both close defense or long stick midfielder. I’m excited to watch him at the next level.”

Jack Lee (lacrosse)
Hometown: Raleigh, N.C.
College choice: University of Richmond
Coach Scott Conlin: “Jack stepped in as a sophomore midfielder two years ago, and his athleticism and versatility made him an instant impact player for the varsity. He was named All-State last year as a junior after registering 21 goals. In addition to his ability to create on the offensive side of the field, Jack’s defensive and clearing skills make him a true throwback midfielder. Selected as a captain for 2020, Jack has a passion to win, and his care for his teammates is evident in everything that he does. Jack will be missed next year and I’m excited to follow his career for the Spiders.”

Finlay MacKnight (lacrosse)
Hometown: Alexandria, Va.
College choice: Williams College
Coach Scott Conklin: “Finlay stepped in right away as a freshman and proved that he was going to be a problem for opposing defenses over the next four years. He is one of the smartest, most skilled, and instinctual players I have coached, and he very much serves the role of being a coach on the field. He finishes his career as the sixth-leading scorer in EHS history, with 81 goals and 81 assists, and likely would have broken the career record for assists (he needed only 17 more). He was also named All-IAC last year. Finlay’s work ethic and leadership (selected as 2020 captain) will be missed. I can’t wait to follow his career at Williams.”

John McKee (lacrosse)
Hometown: Virginia Beach, Va.
College choice: Dickinson College
Coach Scott Conklin: “John is the best face-off specialist I’ve coached at EHS. He was an immediate impact player his freshman season and has steadily improved his game each season. He understands the nuances of the position and works hard to put himself in the best position to succeed. He finished his career as second all-time in face-off wins (only six fewer than the record, despite playing only three seasons because of this spring’s disruption) and first in all-time winning percentage (58%). He also set the single-season record, winning 67% of his face-offs last year. John’s passion for EHS lacrosse and leadership as a captain will be missed next spring, and I expect him to make an immediate contribution to Dickinson’s program in 2021.”

David Rondeau (baseball)
Hometown: Brooklyn, N.Y.
College choice: Hood College
Coach Chris Warren: “David has been an integral part of our program since his freshman year. On the field, he has excelled each year, leading the team in several offensive categories and anchoring the defense at 1st base. For his efforts, he was chosen to the All-IAC team as a junior after earning honorable mention All-IAC honors as a sophomore. In addition to being a leader on the field, David also has been a leader in the clubhouse. His energy, enthusiasm, and passion serve as a model for his teammates. And he is the first one to congratulate a teammate for his on-field success. It is hard to put into words or to measure the true impact David has had on the EHS baseball program, but I am honored to have been able to work with and coach him these past four years, and I look forward to seeing him excel at the next level.”

Maya Thompson (basketball)
Hometown: Fayetteville, N.C.
College choice: Emory University
Coach Katrina Reed: “Maya transferred to EHS her junior year and made an immediate impact on our team. She combined her technical skills with her natural athletic ability to explode past defenders, sink layups with contact, and hit three-point shots at the perfect moment. Maya’s work ethic and commitment to excellence proved a winning combination throughout the years, as she twice earned the title of MVP in the SSSAS Tip-Off Tournament (2018, 2019) and All-ISL honors (2020). Her versatility will certainly make her a force to be reckoned with at the collegiate level. We are immensely proud of her development throughout the last two years and look forward to watching her thrive at Emory.”
