Track & Field Breaks School and Personal Records in Maroon & Black Relay

The Maroon Track & Field team were looking at the home track start line for the first time in 2020 and had some young promising performances for those in their first competition of the 2020 Indoor season.

Sophomore Ta’Miyah Alexander '22 had one of the top performances of the day taking 3rd place in the shot put by keeping a strong level of focus and throwing her personal best in the final throw of the competition. The sophomore’s state-qualifying mark was the best mark of her career. Fellow thrower and Maroon newcomer Luc Richard Rameau '21 threw his personal best time and took first place in the event. It was a personal best day for the throwers with senior David Zeng '21 throwing his all time best along with sophomore Whit Lampton '22 getting his best mark of the season.

Other top finishes on the day went to freshman phenom Akata Wise '23 who took first place in the triple jump in her first time competing for  the Maroon in this event and also a new school record (by .5 inches over Kali Lespere’s leap in 2014). Senior Nina Moore '20 is getting closer to executing her best race, fighting to the line and finishing the fastest on the day over 55-meters just ahead of teammate Wise. Two relay teams on the boys side took 1st place honors as well. The boys' sprint medley relay team ran a new Episcopal all time best to take 1st place just missing the National Indoor Championships standard by .47.

Aaron Lindsey '21, Ethan Yip '21, and Dante Jackson '21 ran the first three legs with Zeddy Williams '21 running a solo anchor to finish 1st on the day. Jackson, Lindsey, Williams, and newcomer Yeabsira Zegeye '21 came back a few hours later and took top spot in the 4x400-meter race edging into the #1 spot in the State Rankings with faster times to come.

On the distance side, the girls 4 x 800-meter team put in some top performances with three of the four registering personal best times. Audrey Dearlove '23 kicked things off with a personal best time in the four-lap race followed by junior Janil Cohen’s '21 personal record performance. Freshman Eliza Robbins '23 ran an incredibly gutsy race to run her all time best. Fellow newcomer Ella Marshall '23 ran a very smart race to anchor the girls sprint medley relay team and a solid opening season time in the 800-meter race. Edward Powers '21 and Thomas Johnson '20 sliced some time off of their season best time to lead the boys distance squad.

The relay races enabled numerous opportunities for some young and up and coming sprinters with considerable promise to compete as well. James Jacob '21 continues to solidify himself as a strong contender for the relays along with debuts for Jack Dupuis '23 and Van Ayvazian '22Ruby Gregg '21 led the sprint crew in the 200’s on the relays with a great day from Lucy Whitaker '22 and Eleanor Cart '23.
