Top EHS Runners Place High, One Medal in Milestat XC Invitational

On Saturday morning, a select group of varsity runners competed in the 2019 MileStat XC Invitational in Mechanicsville, Virginia. The cool weather and fast course helped our athletes focus on racing hard for the entire 5K.

First up at 8:30am were Alli Boehm '20 and Claire Boehm '20 in the Varsity A Girls race of over 300 runners. Claire battled her way to a 55th place finish in a new personal best of 19:39. Alli raced hard to a 7th place finish to earn a medal! Both set new personal bests and are now ranked in the top ten of both the ISL and VISAA. Alli is currently ranked number one in both the ISL and the VISAA with her new school record time of 18:22 in the 5K.

Next up was the team of Emmie Amason '23, Audrey Dearlove '23, Ella Jones '21, Karen Zhang '20, Cindy Xin '20, and team captain Charlotte Breckenridge '20 in the Varsity B Girls race. With a fast start, all runners came through the first mile looking strong. The frosh duo of Amason and Dearlove finished 1-2 for Episcopal in 22:55 and 23:09 for new personal bests. Breckenridge finished in 23:58, showing her consistent and reliable performance approach to races. Jones, Zhang, and Xin finished out team scoring to help Episcopal girls finish 32nd out of more than 50 teams racing.

Immediately after the girls finished, the boys team raced. Tre Simmons '20 was the top finisher for Episcopal setting a new season best time of 17:00 for 11th place. Zeddy Williams '21 finished second for the team in 18:11. Anderson Patry '23 lead the core pack of Hugh McGee '22, William Sternberg '20, and Justin Yi '21, who all finished within 60 seconds of each other. Ben Brandt '21, who is still learning to race consistently, closed out team scoring for Episcopal, helping the team place 29th out of nearly 70 teams.
