James "Jim" D. Farrar, Jr. '70

A three-sport athlete, Farrar earned varsity letters as a member of the football, wrestling, and lacrosse teams.
On the football field, Farrar played guard for his first two varsity seasons and fullback his senior year. As a wrestler, Farrar competed in the heavyweight class despite weighing less than 200 pounds, and in his senior year placed fifth at the prestigious St. Albans wrestling tournament. He was an attackman and midfielder on the lacrosse team, serving as a co-captain his senior year. Farrar took faceoffs, led the team in ground balls, and was the second-leading scorer his junior and senior years. He was named Most Valuable Player in his senior year.

Farrar went on to play football and lacrosse at Washington and Lee University, where he started on both teams all four years. As fullback on the football team, he received the team’s Clovis Moomaw Award for commitment and attitude as a junior and was awarded the Dan Ray Justice Award as the team’s offensive MVP the next year. He was a second-team All-Conference selection his senior year.

Farrar played midfield and defense for the lacrosse team and led the Generals to three NCAA lacrosse tournaments, where they finished as semifinalists his junior and senior seasons. The team finished third in the Division I polls in 1974, the highest season-ending ranking in school history. As a senior, Farrar was a co-captain of the 1974 team and was named first-team All-South Atlantic and third-team All-American.
