EHS Runners Set PRs at Family Weekend City Championship Meet

Episcopal High School hosted the Joe Halm Memorial Alexandria City Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning of Family Weekend. The runners were particularly excited to show off their running prowess to families and supporters. In addition, the juniors organized posters and cupcakes for Senior Day!

Congratulations and a big thank you to the following seniors on our team:
Chineme Agulanna '20 (Captain), Isabelle Bechtel '20, Alli Boehm '20, Claire Boehm '20, Hannah Davies '20, Owen Krivacek '20, Sofiia Mikadze '20, Will Riggsbee '20, Will Sternberg '20, Cindy Xin '20, and Scout Zhou '20.

Four Year Seniors:
Charlotte Breckenridge '20 (Captain), Rob Deaton '20, Tre Simmons '20, and Karen Zhang '20.

In the Boys JV race, the top two runners, Davis Warner '21 and Ben Brandt '21 improved by more than a minute on their season's fastest times. Almost every runner on the JV side set a personal best and showed that they are ready to race in the league championships. A big shout out to Sung Joo Chun '22 and Jason Yoon '21 for racing in their first XC race for Episcopal! The JV boys finished 3rd as a team.

The second race of the day was Girls JV, and the JV Episcopal girls weren't going to let the boys have all the fun and personal bests. While they also finished 3rd as a team, nearly every single runner set a season best or personal best time. The top finisher, Janil Cohen '21 finished in the top 15 on the day. A significant improvement came from Emily Elizabeth Penton '22 who set a 5-minute personal best from last week!

The varsity girls was perhaps the most competitive and tight race on the day. The girls were looking to redeem themselves from last week's loss to St. Stephens and St. Agnes during the Seminary Hill Cup. At the gun, the Episcopal girls took off and raced in a big pack. By the end of the race, Alli Boehm '20 and Claire Boehm '20, had easily pulled away for a sizable lead. Alli set a new personal best of 18:58.95 to dip below 19:00 for the first time. Newcomers to Episcopal XC, Emmie Amason '23, Audrey Dearlove '23, and Ella Jones '21 all set personal bests in the race. The outstanding performances helped Episcopal girls take 2nd place on the day to the mighty T.C. Williams, but finishing ahead of Bishop Ireton and St. Stephens & St. Agnes School.

The varsity boys race saw the return to form of Tre Simmons '20 and Zeddy Williams '21. Simmons set a season best time while Zeddy set a personal best time. Both runners finished in the top 10 on the day. Anderson Patry '23, Hugh McGee '22, Justin Yi '21, and William Sternberg '20 all set personal best times on the day. Despite the strong showing from the boys, the team finished 4th overall with T.C. Williams closing out the sweep of team titles for the City Championships.

Congratulations to all the runners!
