Track & Field teams compete in Saints Showcase

A full contingent from the Episcopal Track & Field team ventured across the street to St. Stephen's & St. Agnes to compete in the Saints Showcase with some strong results as we head into Easter long weekend.
Jamall Mensah '20 had a strong showing in the very hotly contested 100-meters where he ran a superb 11.05 for his top time of the season. Teammate Bryce Steele '21 made his debut with a personal best time in the 100-meters and fifth-place finish as well. Alli Boehm '20 and Dante Jackson '21 swept the 400-meter race with strong times. Jackson’s first open 400-meter of the season and Boehm dropped down from her usual 800-meter event to crack the 60-second barrier and personal best time over the one-lap distance. Two Maroon teammates came back after the 4x100-meter relay race to take the runner up spots as well. Sophomore sensation Aaron Lindsey '21 took Runner Up spot behind Jackson and senior Jahsaiah Moses '19 was a close second in the girls’ race.

Alex de Casteja '20 ran his first open 800-meter race after a strong relay leg debut a few weeks ago, and lived up to his strong showing, taking 1st place in the event in a solid time (2:04.83). de Casteja was followed closely by teammates who also ran personal best times including hard charging Thanos Androus '20 (2:08.98) and Edward Powers '21 (2:13.15).

The girls' 800-meter event also saw some personal best performances. Claire Boehm '20 contested the 800-meter race after a few weeks chasing top times in the 1600-meter. Claire ran a personal best time and was followed closely by Regan Simmons '21 who ran her fastest open 800-meter time to date. Janil Cohen '21 put in her fastest time in the 800-meters in just her second time over the distance and Millie Pettegrew '20 took more time off of her season best time.

Tre Simmons '20 continued the distance sweep for the Maroon taking 1st place in the 1600-meter event. After a slow and tactical first half of the four-lap race, Simmons showed his experience and strength and took charge down the final straight to take first place in his season best time. Chris Denning '19 was the next Maroon to cross the line in an outdoor season best time followed by Chineme Agulanna '20 who raced to a personal best time followed by Rob Deaton '19, who matched his best time from the indoor season in his outdoor season debut.

After a solid week of preparation and rehearsal the boys and girls 4x100-meter teams executed some great races to take first-place finishes. The boys 4x100 team of Steele, Barry Curtis '19, Mensah, and Lindsey ran the top time in the state rankings in their final preparations for the upcoming Penn Relays. Placing third in the 4x100m event was the young Maroon squad of Stern Cohen '21, Darius Johnson '21, Stefan Olsen '21 and Joshua Williams '22. Williams also put in a stellar 53-second leg on the 4x400m relay. The girls also had a young squad for their entry in the 4x100m relay as Sofia Podjenski '20, Mary Preston Singletary '20, a stellar leg from Helen Ingle '21, and a strong finish from Camilla Hipp '21 to finish first in their section.

The girls' 4x100m relay squad also matched their top time of the season to complete the first-place sweep of the event. Caroline Panton '21 added to her 4x100-meter, first-place finish with her debut in the 100-meter hurdles and a personal record 1st place jump in the High Jump event (5-0). Other multi-event performances were put in by Singletary, who placed 2nd overall in the discus event, also had a season best in the high jump and was a member of the girls 4x100-meter team that placed 5th overall, winning their respective heat.

Johnson and Carmela Ribadeneira '21 swept the top spot in the triple jump event, both jumpers reaching all time personal bests with their efforts. The Maroon throwers were in fine form with Parker Jenkins '20 leading the field in the shot put with a personal best throw and 1st place finish. Jenkins was followed in the results by runner up David Zeng '20 and Jess Stallings '20. The Maroon also had a strong contingent in the discus event, with Max Meyer '20 taking top spot followed by Leo McCray '19 and Jon Grunau '19. The solo competitor for The Maroon in the girls' shot put was a strong debut from TaMiyah Alexander '22.
