Girls' tennis defeats strong opponents at Holy Child

The girls' varsity tennis was victorious against the Holy Child School, winning 6-1. They traveled to the Avenel Tennis Club with a different lineup than usual, due to illness and injuries.
Starting out as the No. 1 singles tennis player was Lilly Shmachtenberger '19, who battled a strong Holy Child player over several hours to win 10-6. Lily Dolan ‘20 stepped into the No. 2 singles position and, after a hard-fought battle, lost 6-10. Nora Huffines '20, as the No. 3 singles player, dazzled the opponent's coach with her well-played game, winning 10-2. Catherine Clark '21 moved up from doubles to play the fourth spot in the singles lineup. She swiftly conquered her opponent with grace and ease, winning 10-1.

As the number one doubles team Eve Mazlish '19 joined forces with Lucy Williams '20 to battle out a win against a solid opponent with the score of 10-5. As the No. 2 doubles team Copper Redd '20 and Liljia Kjaernerted '22 patiently chipped away at their opponent to pull away after a deficit for a win, 10-6. Schuyler Moore '20 played with Caroline Davis '21 as the number three doubles to round out our last complete win, 10-5. Minta Brice '22 along with Catherine Clark '21 played an exhibition match with consistent ball play and a great attitude. They also had a win. All the girls had a wonderful experience on a beautiful day. The showed excellent sportsmanship and made a valiant effort to win from a solid opponent.
