Tennis team dominates Madeira

The tennis match at Episcopal High School against Madeira ended in a win for the girls' varsity tennis team, 6-1. The number one singles Gracie Huges '19 beat her opponent 8-2 with consistent and hard shots throughout the match. Lilly Schmactenberger '19, the number two singles, crushed her opponent finishing in under an hour, 8-1. Lily Dolan the number three singles pulls out her first win by dominating her opponent, 8-2. Finally Nora Huffines '21 the number four singles, easily completes her match with an 8-1 win. The singles matches were poised and well played.

All three of the doubles matches played with equal finesse. The number one doubles, Catherine Clark '21 and Lucy Williams '20 finally found a good rhythm playing together and pulled out an 8-2 win. Williams dominated at the net playing a nice aggressive game. Clark was back at the baseline with great consistency and power. The number two doubles, Lucy Peacock '21 and Belle Broll '21 came out with a solid win, 8-6. They struggle on the court with positioning early on but finally worked together and found a way to win. The number three doubles, Cooper Redd '20 and Lilia Kjaernsted '22 played together the first time, and despite the usual hiccups that come with doing something for the first time, it was an exciting and well-played game. They ended up with a loss going back and forth exchanging very dynamic points. They ended the match in a tie-break, 6-6, T 5-7. Finally, Caroline Davis '21 wrapped things up in an exhibition match with a solid win, 8-5.
