Maroon shows strong performances at first full-team meet

The outdoor track & field team competed in the PR Northern Virginia Invitational on Saturday. It is one of the largest public school invitationals in the area, with over 35 public schools competing in their third or fourth meet of the season. This happened to be the Maroon's first meet of the season as a full team.
Aaron Lindsey '21 had a breakout meet as he ran a new personal best time in the open 400-meter event to place 6th overall, ran a leg on the 4x100m relay team that finished 5th, and then put down an impressive leg on the Boys 4x400m event (49.0 split) to cap off an impressive opening weekend of competition.

Senior and Haverford commit Jahsaiah Moses '19 opened up her 2019 hurdle campaign by just missing her all-time personal best by .1 seconds. Versatile specialist Regan Simmons '21 also put down a solid day to start the season, running a strong time on the 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams. Alli Boehm '20 relied on a blistering final 300 meters to move into 4th place in the tightly contested 800-meters. Claire Boehm '20 picked up right where she left off in the winter season and ran her 1600-meter distance. Cam Robinson '19 opened up in the 800-meters and also came back with a reliable leg on the 4x400-meter relay team, which came in 4th place. In the shorter events on the track, Jamall Mensah '20 matched up well against the top talent in the area and placed 5th overall out of 94 entries in the 100-meter event.

This also was a chance for some teammates to compete as well as some seasoned team members to venture into a new world of racing longer distances. Janil Cohen '21 debuted in the 800-meters with a strong showing. She was also on the 4x400 relay team that placed 4th, and was joined by newcomer Lily Arasaratnam '21 in the 4x800. The girls 4x800m team was led by veteran Millie Pettegrew '20, improving on her opening time from last season by nine seconds.

Alex de Casteja '20 ran a solid time of 2:05 in the 800-meter event. Several newcomers opened their track & field careers: Joshua Williams '22 had the fastest freshman times in the 400-meters and the 200-meters on the day; Maya Thompson '20 ran like a seasoned veteran on the 4x100m relay in her first meet in Maroon & Black; and Justin Yi '21 and Alpha Ba '22 showed strong performances in the 1600-meter.
