Varsity Maroon Faces Losses Nearing End of Season

The girls varsity basketball team struggled through injuries and illness this week, ultimately suffering three losses to formidable ISL opponents. However, the squad remains excited for the impending week ahead as they close out the last two weeks of the season.
The team headed to Vienna, Va., for a battle with the #3 team in the ISL, Flint Hill. Although Episcopal got some great looks at the rim, they struggled to convert in the paint. The Huskies used their quickness and stifling defensive pressure to disrupt the Maroon's offensive flow, while conversely nailing shots from everywhere on the court. At halftime, EHS trailed 32-6.

At halftime, the coaching staff worked to resuscitate the shell-shocked Maroon, and the team responded in a positive way. Haley Sabol '20 caught fire in the third stanza, sinking three consecutive trifectas to bring the bench to its feet. Dymin Gerow '20 used her quickness to get by Flint Hill defenders on two occasions while senior Catie Wood '19 knocked down a gorgeous corner jump shot to continue the run. A Maya Thompson '20 layup helped the squad cut the deficit to 15 early in the fourth stanza, but the poised Huskies regained their composure and sealed the 61-38 win in the closing minutes.
