Varsity Squash Wins First Round

The girls varsity squash team competed in the U.S. Squash High School Nationals in Hartford, Conn.
In the first round, EHS faced off against The  Berkshire School from Sheffield, Mass. The match score seesawed until Co-Captain and #1, Nicole Cariño '19, decided she'd had enough drama, and playing brilliantly, pushing the Maroon to an insurmountable 4-2 match lead. Her combination of devastatingly effective lobs, deep drives, and drop shots completely befuddled and frustrated her opponent.

Lilly Schmachtenberger '19, playing in her first U.S. Nationals, overcame early jitters to win convincingly in three straight games. Likewise, Lily Dolan '20 fought hard to earn her four-game victory. Her deep and consistent drives to the backhand corner were the deciding factor in her match. Playing in front of her parents visiting from Jacksonville, FL, Lilly Whitner '19 played an impressive match, cruising to a relatively easy 3-0 victory.

In other matches,
Karla Domingues '20 and Mac Faughnan '19 were not as lucky and lost in straight games. In the seventh and final match, Lindsey Harrison '19 lost in four close games, 1-3.
