Maroon Falls to Bullis in Final Shots

After a week of wild winter weather and game cancellations, the girls' varsity basketball team finally returned to the hardwood on Saturday.
To the delight of the coaching staff, the team came out with incredible zeal on the defensive end and limited the home team to a handful of field goals. Offensively, Haley Sabol '20 caused fits at every position on the floor, nailing layups, threes, and free throws to frustrate the opponent. In the second stanza, it was Maya Thompson '20 who lit up the gym by rattling off eight straight points (including two trifectas). Hannah Boone '22 was also commendable on the interior, using smart drives to open up offensive opportunities. As all good teams do, however, Bullis answered with a 16-2 run to finish the second stanza, and EHS found themselves down 30-19 at the half.

The Maroon did their best to shake off the second quarter slump, and the staff was pleased to see the halftime speech translate immediately. EHS held the Bulldogs to just seven points in the third quarter, rallying behind the leadership and defensive rebounding efforts of Mary Ives Giblin '19. In the third, Dymin Gerow '20 used her quick first step to get herself to the rim on several occasions while teammate Lucy Dixon '21 defended tenaciously and went a perfect 2-2 from the charity stripe. In the end, though, the Maroon could not extinguish Bullis' hot shooting and ultimately fell by a score of 37-40.
