Maroon Tames Bullis Bulldogs

The Maroon took to the court against the perennially tough Bullis Bulldogs.
From the opening tip, EHS played with a different energy than they had shown thus far in the season. The Maroon got after the Bulldogs on defense and made it difficult for them to score, much less get shots off. Charlie Jackson ‘22 gave the Maroon an offensive boost, scoring 6 points in the opening quarter, but it was defense that made the difference for EHS, who went up 10-2 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Zeddy Williams ‘21 and James Greene ‘21 combined for the Maroon’s 12 points, and Josh Williams ‘22 continued to create defensive pressure and consistently clear the boards to keep the Bulldogs from getting second shots. The Maroon went into the locker room up 22-6.

The Bulldogs retuned from half with increased energy, and they managed to knock down six 3-pointers in the second half, but the Maroon repeatedly responded to Bullis’s runs to score buckets of their own and maintain the lead. Though the Bulldogs were able to cut the lead to 6 points, the Maroon scored several baskets in transition and spread the ball around. Six players scored in the final quarter, and the Maroon knocked down several important free throws to finish the game with the win, 44-34.
