Indoor Track Teams Take Medals at Christmas Invite

A select group of Track & Field athletes traveled to Lynchburg, Va., to one of the premier indoor track and field venues on the East Coast, to compete in the Liberty University Christmas Invite against some of the top competition in the State.
The girls relay entries in the 4x200-meter and 4x40-meter had solid starts to the season. The girls 4x200m squad placed seventh overall with a time that placed 10th on the Episcopal All-time Top times list. Team members were Nina Moore '20, Caroline Panton '21, Jahsaiah Moses '19 and Janil Cohen '21. The girls 4 x 400-meter team improved their time by two seconds from the first meet, just missing the bronze medal spot. Team members were Moses, who had the top split on the day, Cohen, Claire Boehm '20, and Regan Simmons '21.

The boys 4 x 200-meter team also ran a solid opening time to the season which included team members Aaron Lindsey '21, Alex de Casteja '20, Dante Jackson '21 and Jamall Mensah ‘20.

The Maroon also competed in some individual events. Tre Simmons '20 had a solid start to the season running a top time in the 1600m as he gets ready for a breakout season on the indoor oval. James Dixon '19 ran a stellar final 200 meters in the 500-meter event and will look forward to improving his time this season. One of the most versatile athletes on the team, Regan Simmons, ran in the 300-meter race to beat her time in the event at this point of the season last year.

Caroline Panton '21
had a strong opening to her EHS Career as well, jumping 4'10" in the high jump, just off the school record of 5'00". Watch a video of one of her jumps.

Claire Boehm made her debut in the 1600-meter event and did not disappoint, winning her heat handily and running an all-time personal best and top three all time for EHS at 5:26.25.

At the end of the day, the best sprinters at the meet lined up for the coveted relay title in the boys 4x400-meter race. Episcopal did not disappoint, with Maroon newcomer Aaron Lindsey putting in a critical opening leg, holding off the field and handing off to teammate Jackson, who was able to run traffic-free around the track for two laps, expanding the lead for Dixon and de Casteja to hold off the field and take the gold medal in a strong early season time.

Alli Boehm '20
had a stellar debut in the 1000-meter event. Running a calm and calculated first two laps, she found her way moving through the field comfortably and taking off from the field at 600 meters and finishing as the Liberty Christmas Invite Champion, smashing the School record, rocketing to No. 1 in the Virginia State Rankings, and squeezing into the Top 10 in National Rankings.
