Boys Varsity Basketball Defeats Cardinals

The boys varsity basketball team took a break from final exam prep to compete against nearby Bishop Ireton.
Bishop Ireton jumped out to an early lead, and Episcopal used the final few minutes of the first period playing catch-up. The Maroon trailed the Cardinals 12-9 after eight minutes of play, but the second quarter was much better for the home team. Episcopal was able to pull ahead in the period after some inspired play from Tymu Chenery ‘20. The junior guard had nine points and several rebounds in the second quarter. Ireton is a tough and well coached team, so they were able to make a run of their own; the game was tied 24-24 at the intermission.

The pace of the game picked up in the third quarter, but Episcopal still had trouble pulling away from Bishop Ireton. Foul trouble was an issue for the Maroon in the second half, and the team relied on some strong contributions from players off the bench. The third period was an even quarter, 14-14, and both teams were ready to make a final push for an important VISAA win. Fortunately for EHS, shots began to fall, and we took advantage of some missed free throws from Bishop Ireton. On the defensive end, Episcopal held their opponent to just nine points in the final quarter. As the buzzer sounds, EHS won the game by a final score of 53-47. Episcopal is now 5-2.
