Girls Varsity Ends 2018 With a Win

Riding the high off a key ISL win less than 48 hours prior, the Maroon knew they'd needed to muster grit and hustle to overcome this athletic team.
In the opening minutes. Episcopal used a balanced offensive attack paired with a stifling press to earn an early lead. Haley Sabol '21 was sensational on the glass while teammate Maya Thompson '21 used her quick first step to get by the opponent and draw several key fouls. Despite the early 14-7 lead, though, Washington-Lee proved that they had too much heart to merely fade into the night. The Generals got hot in the second quarter and hit four trifectas to pull within striking distance of the Maroon.

After refocusing during the halftime period, Episcopal stepped up their offensive and defensive efforts in the third stanza. EHS relied heavily on the success of it's full-court press, confounding the W-L and leading to multiple layups. The Maroon also heeded the advice of the coaching staff and began taking advantage of back-door opportunities, including fantastic passes by Lucy Dixon '21 and Sabol to Dymin Gerow '20 for a pair of consecutive layups. An athletic block by Catie Wood '19 and strong rebounding by Hannah Boone '22 put exclamation points on the team's defensive efforts, as they earned a comfortable 49-35 win to close out 2018.
