Maroon Tames Gators

The girls varsity basketball team welcomed Stone Ridge for an important ISL AA contest.
Despite being winless against the Gators in their previous two meetings, the Maroon came out confident and ready to battle this upper division nemesis.

Stone Ridge immediately applied defensive pressure with their tenacious press, but EHS handled it with ease, making intelligent passes and using ball fakes to negate the zone. Dymin Gerow '20 sank the first field goal of the night off a beautiful back-door pass from Haley Sabol '20. On the other end, Hannah Boone '22 solidified the interior of the zone and forced numerous turnovers for the visiting team. Lucy Dixon '21 used her quickness and length to pick up a critical steal with nine seconds in the half, leading to a buzzer-beating layup by Gerow to put the team up 21-13.

The Gators refocused at half and came out with incredible fire, especially on defense. EHS made a few uncharacteristic turnovers and mental errors on defense, but remained positive and unselfish. Maya Thompson '20 managed a block in the third quarter that stopped a Stone Ridge Run and Mary Ives Giblin '19 came up with two key steals in the same stanza to swing the momentum back in favor of the home team. The Maroon then used their signature defense to throttle the Gators down the stretch, and the team finished the contest with a decisive 42-31 victory.
