Track & Field Starts Season With Best Foot Forward

The Maroon kick-started the season on Cathcart Track against nine other schools. Episcopal had a fantastic start to the season led by top performances from returning members of the Maroon & Black, and some debuts that were awarded to a few new athletes.
Alli Boehm '20 kicked of the first event, the girls 4 x 800-meter with a strong performance helping her team along to a Runner Up performance. Boehm was joined by Missy Brandt '20Claire Boehm '20, and a debut for sophomore Liza Gregory '21, who got her Maroon career off to a strong start.

The boys “D-squad” are turning into a force this season in training and did not disappoint on the track on Friday. Led by personal record times to start the season, Cameron Robinson '19, Chris Denning '19, and the biggest performance went to Edward Powers '21, who debuted for the Maroon & Black last season in a time of 2:34 and this year went 2:19.0 to kick off the season. Tre Simmons '20 and James Dixon '20 had solid starts as well, and the baton was handed for the first time to freshman Davis Warner '22, who will continue to improve throughout the season.

Nina Moore '20 blasted out of the starting blocks in her first meet of the year to take first place in the 55-meter dash, with a new personal record time. Moore also came back in the 300-meters to place second overall and another personal record time.

Newcomer Caroline Panton '21 put together a solid start to the season in the high jump event to take first place overall, followed closely by teammate Carmela Ribadeneira '21, who placed third to put together what is now a vital 1-2 punch for the team scoring this season.

Joining Moore and Panton in top spot were the boys and girls 4 x 400-meter relay teams. On the girls side, Alli Boehm came back from her 4 x 800-meter to put down her all-time personal best in the 400-meters to clinch first place after Jahsaiah Moses '19, Regan Simmons '21, and a new personal record performance from Janil Cohen '21. On the boys side, veterans Alex de Casteja '20 and James Dixon '20 combined with newcomers Dante Jackson '21 and Aaron Lindsey '21 to catapult The Maroon to #1 in the early season state rankings for the 4 x 400-meter.

Other strong performances on the day included a new personal record for Jamall Mensah '20, who rocketed through the preliminary heats in the 55-meter with the top time on the day. Sydney Lewis '19 brought the crowd to their feet with her personal record come from behind charging finish in the 300-meters. Lewis led a trio of top performers in the 300-meters with Ruby Gregg '21, Maria Claiborne '21, and Sides Bell '21 all running personal best times.
