Girls Varsity Basketball Crushes Collegiate

It's never easy playing back-to-back games, especially when one of them features the talented VISAA opponent Collegiate. The coaching staff encouraged the team to push past physical fatigue with mental focus, as it would be a key to victory on Friday evening.
Luckily for the Maroon, Haley Sabol '20 morphed into a one-woman wrecking crew and transformed into an energy source that the entire team fed off of. The junior sliced through the defense and drained deep three-pointers to completely stun the Cougars. Nora Huffines '20 was a poised perimeter option off the bench who played solid defense and sank a key jumper in the second quarter. At halftime, EHS held a comfortable 34-12 lead.

Collegiate used the halftime period making several adjustments to chip away at the deficit. After a 6-0 Cougar run, Episcopal called a timeout to settle down and get back to what had made them successful in the first half: defense and rebounding. Lucy Dixon '21 heeded this call and led the charge, frustrating the opponent with her length and quickness at the top of the zone. Offensively, Collegiate intensified their in the second half, but senior Mary Ives Giblin '19 remained poised and confident and helped settle her teammates. In the end, the home team was able to walk away with a 44-24 victory.
