Girls Varsity Falls to Bullis in Home Opener

Although the girls' varsity basketball team suffered a tough 42-37 loss in their home opener to Bullis on Tuesday evening, the coaching staff was incredibly impressed by the heart, grit, and resilience the squad showcased throughout the entirety of the game.
From the opening tip, the Maroon refused to cower to this perennial ISL powerhouse. EHS applied tenacious defensive pressure led by Dymin Gerow '20 and Maya Thompson '20 and quickly jumped out to an early 12-5 lead. As good teams do, Bullis reponded with an powerful run of their own in the second stanza, but the home team remained undeterred and quickly answered back. A Haley Sabol '20 three-pointer further extended the lead for the Maroon, and the team finished the first half with a 22-17 lead.

Returning to the hardwood, the Bulldogs used their size and athleticism to force a slew of Episcopal turnovers. Luckily for the Maroon, Mary Ives Giblin '19 was able to rally the troops in the fourth quarter with strong defensive pressure and Hannah Boone '22 netted a tough layup in traffic late in the game. After a back-and-forth battle in the final 16 minutes, EHS missed several critical free throws down the stretch, and Bullis was ultimately able to seal the 42-37 victory.
