Boys JV Basketball Defeats Yorktown

On Friday, the Maroon took to the court again to face the Yorktown Patriots.
Playing without a shot clock, the game got off to a bit of a slow start as the Patriots patiently worked the ball around against the EHS defense. The Maroon, less patient on offense, managed to go ahead early, led by the scoring of Zeddy Williams '21, who had 11 first-half points. Though Episcopal made scoring difficult for the Patriots, Yorktown was able to keep the game close by knocking down five 3-pointers against the Maroon zone, and the teams went into halftime locked in a low-scoring one-point game. EHS led 17-16.

The second half was a different story, though, as the Maroon controlled the tempo of the game through tough man defense and a few more fast break points. Williams, along with Ransdell McCauley '20 and Beck Goode '21, led the Maroon charge offensively to pull ahead 32-27 by the end of the third quarter. And in the final period, Collier Lilly '21 knocked down two 3-pointers in quick succession and Charlie Jackson '22 put in a few more points to keep the Patriots from threatening the lead. James Greene '21 and Josh Williams '22 provided a defensive spark in the second half, and they also scored a couple of crucial buckets as well in the final minutes of the game. Though it was a hard fought contest until the final buzzer sounded, the Maroon came away victorious, 53-41.
