Varsity Basketball Wins SSSAS Tournament

On top of six practices, two scrimmages, and two games in seven days, the excitement was palpable before the championship tipped off Saturday afternoon.
EHS charged out to an early 13-4 lead thanks to the deadly combination of Haley Sabol '20 and Dymin Gerow '20. As all good teams do, though, the Saints rallied back from a 12-4 deficit to grab a one point advantage at the end of the first stanza, but Episcopal continued to fight. Gerow and Hannah Boone '22 notched two three-pointers, and SSSAS managed to maintain a marginal 26-23 lead by the end of the half.

During the intermission, the Maroon made a collective decision to lock down defensively and get tougher on the boards. From the very beginning of the third quarter, Episcopal committed to doing the "little" things, and their defensive tenacity began to create offensive opportunities. Gerow used her athleticism to intercept passes and convert them to layups. Additionally, Maya Thompson '20 took over midway through the period with three consecutive trifectas that gave EHS the lead and whipped teammates into a frenzy. Despite a hard-fought comeback effort by the Saints down the stretch, the Maroon remained poised and pulled out a 54-47 win.

Congratulations to Dymin Gerow '20 and Haley Sabol '20, who earned All-Tournament accolades, and Maya Thompson '20 , who was named tournament MVP.
