Victory in the Forest: EHS Wins The 118th Game

In front of a large crowd at Woodberry Forest, the Maroon Varsity football team put together an epic comeback to defeat the Tigers 25-21.
EHS opened up the scoring as Juanell Walker ’19 ran the ball in from 1 yard out. Woodberry Forest would go on to score the next three unanswered touchdowns to go up 21-6. Late in the third quarter, the Maroon offense got a spark when Salim Turner-Muhammad ’19 ran the ball 30 yards on a toss reverse play that caught Woodberry off guard. That play seemed to shift the momentum. A few plays later, John Boyles ’20 ran the ball into the end zone from 2 yards out. After a strong defensive stop, Walker ran the ball into the end zone again from 1 yard out.

With the Maroon team down 21-19, Emmett Morehead ’21 came into the game and completed a perfect ball to Elijah Gaines ’20 down the Maroon sideline for a 39-yard touchdown bomb.

The defense again stepped up and made several key stops, including the game winning interception by Litchfield Ajavon ’19.

The Maroon Offense finished the game with 385 yards of total offense (213 passing / 172 rushing). The Maroon defense held Woodberry to only 2 yards rushing the football with Jeff Stallings ’20, Ben Lee ’20, and Bryce Steele ‘21 having 6 tackles each. The Maroon defense also forced Woodberry to turn the ball over twice.

Punter Paul Pivirotto ’19 had an amazing game all afternoon kicking away from their dangerous returner and flipping field position on several key situations.

Episcopal's varsity football team had a complete team effort to go on to defeat Woodberry Forest 25-21 and finish the season at 6-3.
