Giving Day Exceeds All Expectations

The EHS 24/7 Roll Call Challenge was Episcopal’s second foray into a one-day giving event to boost support for the School’s annual fund, and the results were nothing short of phenomenal.
The extended Episcopal community of alumni, parents, students, and faculty stepped up on April 5, as 1,012 donors pitched in to contribute $442,378 to the Roll Call. The success of the day built on the impressive results from last year’s first-ever giving day, the EHS Finals Countdown, during which 871 donors gave $346,800 in a single day on June 1.

The initial goal of 700 donors was surpassed shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, unlocking the $100,000 challenge gift proposed by the Board of Trustees. With the initial goal met, a collection of former trustees offered a second $25,000 challenge for an additional 150 donors, and that second challenge was met in just a few hours. Still, the donations continued rolling in steadily throughout the evening.

The site devoted to #EHS247 offers an easy look back at all the generous gifts, the challenge gifts from classmates and parents, and cool video pleas from various beloved faculty members, as well as several video updates from Stewart as the day progressed and the gifts rolled in.

Two young alumni classes led the day in gifts and will receive special awards for their efforts. The Class of 2006 pulled in 46 donors, the highest number for a non-reunion class. Their reward will be a special tail-gate set-up at The Game at Woodberry on November 10. The Class of 2008 led all reunion years by amassing 32 donors and will enjoy an exclusive champagne bar for them and their guests during their Reunion Weekend this June.

Other impressive highlights from the day included:
  • The Class of 2018 pitched in unanimously, reaching 100% participation for the day, keeping alive a streak of graduating classes hitting the mark for a third consecutive year;
  • Thirty members of the Class of 2017 (first-year college students) contributed, an incredibly high number for first-year college students.
  • 75 faculty and staff made a donation during the day, increasing the overall percentage of faculty and staff who support the Roll Call each year.
  • The Class of 1983 gave the largest total amount for a single alumni class, giving $12,275.
A dozen or so alumni and parents helped out by showing their support via social media, and the EHS accounts were busy as well!
