Heidi Huntley

Biography:
Heidi serves as the Social Studies Department Chair, is a member of the Anderson dorm team, is an academic advisor, and serves on the Discipline Committee at EHS. She also teaches Honors Modern World History, Advanced History of the Modern Middle East elective, and the Advanced Global Studies: The History and Politics of Food elective. Heidi designed and implemented a Lyceum program as an extension of the Social Studies Department to create the opportunity for the entire community to learn about the historical context of contemporary topics of interest.
 
She also is active in fostering faculty development; she initiated and coordinates the Collaborative Study Groups (CSGs) designed to support professional growth for faculty through a partnership with the National School Reform Faculty (NSRF), as well as co-designed and leads the Leading Teachers in Experiential Education Program, which supports faculty in their pursuit of connecting their classrooms with the Washington, D.C., metro region. 
 
Heidi earned an undergraduate degree in art history with a minor in architectural studies at the University of New Hampshire and earned her M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Keene State College while teaching full-time. Before joining the EHS faculty, Heidi taught for six years at Souhegan High School in Amherst, N.H., where she became acquainted with the Coalition of Essential Schools’ philosophy. Heidi completed four professional development programs at Yale University’s MacMillan Center, which provided her with the opportunity to travel to Turkey, China, UAE, Ecuador, and Morocco. She continues to travel the world during school breaks.
