Departments and Positions:
• Director, Office of Community and Equity
• English Teacher
• Assistant Coach, Indoor Track & Field
Biography:
In addition to his role on the senior administrative team as Director of the Office of Community and Equity, Louis teaches English, coaches indoor track, and is a faculty advisor to the Multi- and Bi-racial Students’ Affinity Group. His work with the Board of Trustees includes various ad hoc committees and working groups, including his present work with the School History Working Group. Previously, Louis coached football and lacrosse and served as a faculty advisor to the Honor Committee.

As a presenter at the NAIS People of Color Conference, Louis has shared insight on how game play can improve outcomes in constructively addressing sensitive issues of identity. He strives to facilitate understanding and build community in a non-charged atmosphere by equipping people to respectfully engage in challenging discourse. Part and parcel of that work is the regular development of student and faculty workshops, programming, and strategic initiatives to further Episcopal’s institutional mission through ensuring an equitable sense of belonging for all students.

Upon earning a B.A. from Williams College, Louis taught at The Brooks School in North Andover, Mass., then attended law school, served as a federal law clerk, and practiced as a litigator. His love of teaching drew him back to the classroom, first at D.C.’s Sidwell Friends School and then at Episcopal.

Louis loves playing and listening to music, exploring the outdoors, indulging in a thought-provoking read, making things, and writing. He lives with his wife, Millie (English teacher and director of the Washington Program), his three boys, William ’19, Max ’22, and Charlie ’23, and their daughters Alma ’37 and Lolly ’39.
