Louis Smith

Departments and Positions:
English Teacher
School Extension 4184
Louis teaches English, coaches football and lacrosse, serves as faculty advisor to both the Honor Committee and the Black and African American Students’ Affinity Group, and is a member of the Berkeley Dorm team.

In 2017, he was awarded the William B. Ravenel Mastership for Excellence in Teaching English and is currently working to complete his Master of Arts in English Literature at Middlebury’s Bread Loaf School of English.

Upon earning a B.A. from Williams College, Louis taught at Brooks School in North Andover, Mass., before going to law school working as a litigator. Eventually, his love of teaching called him back to the classroom, first at D.C.’s Sidwell Friends School and then to a position on the Episcopal faculty.

Louis loves playing and listening to music, exploring the outdoors, indulging in a thought-provoking read, making things, and writing. He lives on campus with his wife, Millie (English teacher and WPE Associate Director), and his three boys, William ’19, Max '22, and Charlie (who hopes to be in the EHS class of 2023).
