2010 Boys’ Soccer Team

Following two undefeated seasons, the 2010 boys’ soccer team had to overcome expectations and pressure. The players remained focused on daily preparation and finished the regular season 17-0-1 overall and 10-0 in the IAC. The team outscored all opponents 63-7, and IAC schools 33-2, setting a new record for fewest goals conceded in a season. The unbeaten streak of 63 games came to an end in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 tie in a state quarterfinal game against St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School.

Seven players earned postseason honors, including five who were named All-State. Schillo Tshuma ’12 was the VISAA State Player of the Year. Eleven players from the 2010 team went on to play varsity sports at the collegiate level, including eight who played NCAA soccer. Dominique Badji ’11 and Schillo Tshuma ’12 would go on to be drafted by MLS teams and play professionally.

“Playing on the 2010 team was a dazzling performance of skill, led by a class act group of coaches,” Nick Weeden ’11 said. “From saves to goals, it was one of those teams where ‘jaw-dropping’ can be used quite literally.”

Highlights from the three-year streak:

• Forty-one student athletes played varsity soccer throughout the three-year unbeaten streak.
• Four members of the Class of 2011 played in nearly all 64 games from those three seasons: Nick Weeden (63), Solomon Thomas (62), Bennett Jones (60), and Trevor Bobola (59).
• Episcopal scored 196 goals while only conceding 31 during the streak and the leading goal scorers were Schillo Tshuma ’12 (37), Dominique Badji ’11 (26), Alex Smith ’11 (21), Arnaud Adala Moto ’12 (20), and Shadow Sebele ’09 (18).
• EHS shutout 37 of 64 opponents, and only gave up two goals five times.
