Broadway Musical Makes Its Washington-Area Debut at EHS

“Be More Chill,” a musical that’s currently a hit on Broadway, opens tomorrow night, July 11, at Episcopal High School’s Breeden Black Box Theater.
Monumental Theatre, which won a Helen Hayes Award last year as Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company in the DC area, will perform the play through July 29. Monumental, a nonprofit company, is Episcopal’s theater in residence; Michael Windsor, the group’s co-producing artistic director, is the arts assistant at EHS.

“Be More Chill” has had a storybook run, opening several years ago at a New Jersey theater, moving to off-Broadway, and then coming to Broadway in March. It’s a sci-fi comedy about a highschool nerd who woos a school crush with the advice and help of technology — specifically, a nanocomputer packed into an easy-to-swallow pill and implanted in his brain. The play’s pop-rock score, by Joe Iconis, earned a Tony nomination this year.

Tickets and more information are available through Monumental.
