Matriculation Plans Reveal Class of 2019’s Depth and Breadth

The 123 members of the Class of 2019 are “on their way rejoicing” to 67 different colleges in 24 states, the United Kingdom, and China.
Almost two-thirds of the class will attend private colleges in the U.S., while 43 graduates will enter public colleges. Twelve graduates will attend Ivy League schools, and two seniors have elected to take a gap year.

“The application and matriculation summary for the Class of 2019 once again reveals the depth and breadth of Episcopal’s senior class. They fared extraordinarily well in the college process and brought a wide spectrum of interests and credentials to the application process,” said Director of College Counseling Tara Maglio.

“This year’s graduates are interested in humanities, business, engineering, and international affairs. Many are undecided about their future majors and looking for colleges with broad and flexible core requirements. A handful of our seniors will pursue specialized college programs in fields such as nursing, fashion merchandising, musical theater, and aeronautical engineering.”

In addition, Maglio noted, one senior received and accepted an appointment to West Point, and five others will participate in ROTC programs at their respective institutions - Georgia Tech, VMI, Wake Forest, and UNC Chapel Hill.

Other Class of 2019 highlights include:
  • A Texas Christian University Chancellor’s Scholarship recipient
  • A recipient of the Cooke College Scholarship
  • Two students who were invited to join the Echols Scholars Program at University of Virginia
  • A Colby Presidential Scholarship recipient
  • A William & Mary James Monroe Scholar Program recipient
  • A George Washington University Presidential Scholarship recipient
  • 28 students who have committed to play college athletics
  • A recipient of a Certificate of Accomplishment from the Princeton Prize in Race Relations
“Episcopal students are ambitious, industrious, and most certainly engaged intellectually, but they are also students who hope to be a force of good in the lives of others, and we carry that hope and expectation for them as well as they enter the next chapter of their education,” Maglio said.
