Counseling
Services
The
counseling offices are located on the first floor of McAllister Health
Center. Counseling staff is available to
the EHS community on a walk-in or appointment basis during the regular school
day. Counseling staff include two full-time on campus counselors and a consulting psychiatrist. Individual counseling or initial evaluation
of mental health concerns are available for students who indicate a desire or
need for such support related to emotional, behavioral, or adjustment issues.
Request for an appointment can be made by the student, a parent or guardian,
the advisor, a coach, or faculty member. Requests should be made directly to the counseling staff or the medical director. Arrangements for further evaluation,
ongoing counseling, or other such care are then made directly with the student
and the student’s family by the counselor or designated health personnel.
Referrals
to an on-campus consulting psychiatrist can be made by the school counselor or
a parent and should be arranged in consultation with the medical director.
In
addition, the School maintains the ability to make referrals to local providers
in the event a student is requesting or requiring mental health services from
an off-campus provider. Arrangements
for such can be made in consultation with the school counselors or the medical director.
Mental
Health Emergencies and Crisis
In addition to daily routine appointment hours, the counselors are available
24/7 in the event of a mental health crisis or urgency. The
counselors can be reached directly by phone, email, or via the Health Center main
clinic phone.
Health
Education and Support Services
In addition to individual counseling and
evaluations, the counseling staff offers a variety of other support services
and health education offerings. The
specifics of each of these services and programs change
yearly to meet the needs of students.
Student life programming and sophomore health class are two such venues
in which support and education are routinely provided.
Care
related to Substance Use or Abuse
EHS
Health Services supports the school policy on drugs and alcohol while working
to provide assistance to any student with substance related questions or
concerns. In collaboration with the Student Assistance Team (SAT), both the medical director and counseling staff will oversee referral of
students on SAT contracts to the appropriate services for evaluation,
assessment and ongoing support.
In
addition, referral into any substance related counseling, education or support
services can be initiated by a student or parent directly to the medical director or counselor, outside the disciplinary or SAT process.
