Jack Rauch '12 & Boys’ Varsity Squash Claim First at Mid-Atlantic's Individuals Squash Tournament

On Feb. 18, Episcopal's Goodman Squash Center played host to the Mid-Atlantic's Individuals Squash Tournament.

February 27, 2012

Episcopal’s top seven players competed in individuals-based and team-based competition. During the day, each ladder position from all competing teams played against one another, and the individuals’ finish determined a team result.

Usually, a standard bracket-style draw would dictate the day’s progression, however other teams’ health issues and last minute cancellations moved the competition to a round-robin system where everyone plays everyone in the draw. Additionally, the teams played in a hot-court style of competition which listed the matches in numeric order, and the pair at the top of the list played whenever a court became available. This required each player to play more matches with less breaks in between.

At times, the day seemed pretty chaotic, but everything moved along as planned. Episcopal’s battle-weary boys took advantage of teams that had weaker line-ups and systematically chipped away at the competition. In practically every draw, an Episcopal player was in contention for the top spot.

When the dust settled, the Maroon mathematically claimed victory of the team championship. Jack Rauch ’12 earned first Team All-Tournament for ladder position 1. Thomas Farnsworth ’12, Hale King ’12, Patrick McLendon ’12, Jack Richardson ‘13, and Chris Shea ’14 earned second Team All-Tournament honors for their ladder positions.
